Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
