Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

• For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
